Boutique Art Couture
Gislaveds konsthall, Sweden
5.12. 2015 – 17.1. 2016

Galleria Huuto’s project, art clothing store Boutique Art Couture is now exhibited in the Gislaved art hall in Sweden. The project has been previously exhibited in Galleria Huuto Jätkäsaari and Supermarket – Stockholm Independent Art Fair.

Boutique Art Couture clothing store sells clothes and other utility art made by participating artists. They are sculptors, performance artists, painters, graphic designers – and there is even one fashion designer who has also worked as an art curator.

The intention of the art cothing store is to bring art closer to daily life. We want to put forward a reminder: there is art in our lives, as long as we see it. We want to lift up the more worldly sides of art: how art is sold and bought despite its spiritual nature, and what happens when art is taken out of its frames, where it is sometimes forgotten. Our intention is not to play designers. Rather, we want to show examples of where art can exist in our lives and provide alternative uses for artistic abilities.

The exhibition space is built as a clothing store with a mirror and a dressing room. Our goal is to sell at least part of the production with the kind of prices that allow the pieces to be spotted on the streets. There are many unique creations in the store, but also easy purchases, as well as other utility art.

There will be wearable sculptures, striking evening dresses, performance costumes, quotidian performance – and skateboards.

The Art Couture project consists of works by over twenty artists. The project has been shaped by Kaarina Ormio from Galleria Huuto, who also gathered the participating artists from inside and outside of Huuto.
