The Survivor
19.7.-11.8.2019

My paintings have been inspired by films and television shows that portray disaster scenarios. Some kind of accident has happened and society is in disarray. In the middle of the chaos we see people running through the forest, fighting and surviving against all odds. In these films, the people are survivors fighting for their lives.

My survivors are more ordinary. Maybe they are going through a difficult phase in their lives. Maybe they don’t even want to fight. Perhaps they are just playing heroes and survivors, like children during their endless summer holiday.

Malin Ahlsved (b. 1976) lives and works in Hanko. She earned her master’s degree from the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts in 2004.

The exhibition has been supported by the Arts Promotion Centre Finland, Svenska kulturfonden and Föreningen Konstsamfundet.
