Mother said: ”Ask Your Father”
6.10.–24.10.2010
Galleria Huuto Uudenmaankatu

Do you remember, what your mother used to say to you – as instructions for life, maybe to cheer you up or to scare you – and whatever it was, it maybe stayed with you as something very different from what she had ment?

Niina Lehtonen Braun has asked people after these words given them by their mothers, and collected them. She has created collages of different materials based on these sayings. The project is in process and new works will be made with new sayings – in the exhibition you can leave your message to the artist to share your mother’s wisdom.

Niina Lehtonen Braun (b. 1975) graduated from the Fine Arts Academy, Helsinki, in 2000. The last ten years she has been living in Berlin, Germany. Her production contains not only collages, but also videos, installations and performances.

Mother said:

If something’s out of your control, just let it be and hope for the best.

Don’t walk alone and drunk home from the bar at night.

You are living very dangerously!

Remember, I am your biggest fan.

Eat a muffin, take a shower, relax.

Rise and shine!
