INT. – AN APARTMENT IN THE OLD TOWN OF VILNIUS – NIGHT

A woman sits at the kitchen table in a small studio apartment. On the table there is a large cup
of mint tea of which she occasionally takes a sip. The woman’s hands are on a computer
keyboard. Her fingers are not moving. The woman stares through the window into the
darkness without seeing anything. She is thinking.
Suddenly the woman remembers something. She searches a photo from her computer. The
photograph is black and white. It is wide. Shot through tree leaves. The photo shows a man
and a woman sitting on a rock. They look happy. They sit there like the rest of the world had
forgotten them. They are in their own invisible bubble. In a moment that is clearly important
to them, closed to outsiders.
There is a dialogue under a photograph. The woman copies it to a new text file.

WOMAN’S FRIEND
“It’s like a print from an old silent movie. Has a really nice story.”

WOMAN
“Not everyone sees stories, my friend.”

WOMAN’S FRIEND
“Most just don’t look.”

The woman switches off her computer. She can hear the sound of cats fighting outside. It is
early spring. The woman sits still for a moment. The mint tea has got cold. She finishes it.
Gets up. Switches off the lights.

Hannele Majaniemi is working both in the film industry and as a photographer. She is
fascinated by catching the fleeting moments, by importance of details and also stories around
them.
Sitters is a filmic photo exhibition of those who sit.

parenteesi (Huuto kaukaa ulkoa)
by Vincent Roumagnac

parenteesi (Huuto kaukaa ulkoa)* is a spontaneous response to Hannele Majaniemi’s invitation to reflect on her photo exhibition Sitters* through performative interventions in situ in Galleria Huuto (Helsinki).

I therefore have proposed to Hannele to trigger a small theatrical act (with and/or without performer) at the sunset based on the stage instructions of the play by French author Marguerite Duras India Song.
