The works included in the exhibition are about the family, different generations, families fal- ling apart and the related fears as well as the good and bad passed on from one generation to the next. The materials I used are familiar, ranging from the storage containers of the mo- thers of my generation to a grandfather’s cigar box and chips eaten by a kid.

Collecting, storing and organizing items is a way to deal with things. It is to do with security, dreams and hopes of having better control of one’s life. “If we have blueberries in the freezer, we will survive the winter without an illness. Collecting stamps allows you to dream of fara- way places…”

Terhi Heino (b. 1970, Oulu) graduated from the Department of Sculpture at the Finnish Aca- demy of Fine Arts in 2001. Heino uses natural and recycled materials in her work. She has had several group and solo exhibitions in Finland and abroad (including Korjaamo Gallery in 2011 and Moscow Museum of Modern Art in 2007). Heino received the Raimo Utriainen Grant in 2004 and the William Thuring Grant in 2011. Next she will take part in the public art competition for the multifunctional Aurinkokivi building in Kivistö, Vantaa and in December her works will be displayed at the Montbeliard Art Center in France. Heino lives and works in Helsinki.
