5.10. – 9.10.2011
Galleria Huuto Uudenmaankatu

Greetings from Another Side is a compilation of video works by six artists of Galleria Huuto. The diverse body of works shares mutual aspects of delicate humor, an onlooker’s point of view, and comforting melancholy. Exhibition is curated by Maija Blåfield.

Maija Blåfield: If I Were Buried at a Street Corner

If I Were Buried at a Street Corner is a short film about seeing otherwise – on which the experience of beauty in everyday life is often based. Filmed during HIAP artist’s residency in Frankfurt am Main, where an abandoned tombstone provided the starting point for the observation of an unfamiliar setting. The city appears as an empty landscape, seen from an outsider’s perspective. The hierarchy, utility and logic of the surroundings are sidelined, when monuments can be found in the backyard. Thanks for the inspiration to Mr and Mrs Dreher.

Works of Maija Blåfield have often distinctive documentary elements and discuss the multiple ways of interpreting and experiencing reality.

Miia Rinne: Pori-Helsinki

Pori-Helsinki is a movie hand-painted on 35 mm film. It shows colors and forms that create an illusion of passing sceneries, creating a moving landscape as seen from the window of a train. The work is a mixture of concrete and psychological travel, and allows the viewer’s mind to wander in several places and times. The film has been named after the artist’s birthplace and her current hometown. Soundscape by Tapani Rinne and Verneri Lumi.

Artist Miia Rinne focuses on moving image and installations. While often being like sceneries from inner road movies, her works include the concept of the entire universe where everything is on the move.
