OK Radiance
27.5.-19.6.2022

On Ascension Day 26 May 2022, Huuto is closed.

My exhibition OK Radiance explores the conflict between attraction, avoidance, a sense of community and rivalry as a metaphor for the fragility of life.

Radiation is energy in the form of waves or subatomic particles. Just like light and darkness, it spreads around, damages the genome of living cells, lives in our bodies as radioactive elements and occasionally glows between people like an inner flame.

Relying on the magical language of images, the work combines abstract and figurative means of expression while structuring the physical reality that often seems chaotic. The dialog that is based on the associations between the images reminds one of public and private rituals, social threats and the need for empathy in an industrial era that emphasizes intelligence and uses all living things as resources.

Jenni Holma (b. 1987) is a Helsinki-based artist and photographer. She earned her Master of Arts degree from Aalto University in 2020. She has also studied at the Lahti Institute of Design and Fine Arts and at the Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne, Australia. In her artistic work, she is interested in the boundaries between humanity and inhumanity as well as the interaction between generational traumas and urban contemporary culture. Holma’s works have been on display at exhibitions and photography festivals in Finland and abroad.

The exhibition and artistic work have been supported by the Finnish Art Society and Arts Promotion Centre Finland.
