Sasha Rotts & Robin Clifford Ellis
Shapes of Things to Come
10.10.-3.11.2024
In their joint exhibition, Shapes of Things to Come, Sasha and Robin explore the edges of their mutual practice and the overlaps between the two.
Robin’s vibrant silkscreen prints investigate form, colour, rhythm and tone. Using the motif of the grid, he seeks to strike a balance between control, playfulness, and happenstance, making two-tone monotypes that eschew the flatness typically associated with screen printing.
In her practice, Sasha has expanded the idea of communication between people, time and spaces, using traditional stitching as a medium. Embroidery/appliqué is a pastime among women and girls in traditional cultures. In her practice, Sasha makes the link between contemporary art and the concept of embroidery in cultural and historical contexts.
In their shared piece, Sasha and Robin riff on idle doodle-making, using a playful, improvised approach to create a wallpaper backdrop onto which their works are shown. This piece unites for us what is at the heart of both of our practices: the process and sheer joy of drawing.
