Nada Dada Quits Art & The Holy Chicken of Life and Music
Galleria Huuto Jätkäsaari – Pikkujätkä
8.3.-23.3.2014

As a part of Galleria Huuto’s series Video Guests, we present two video works in Kulmio,
in co-operation with art:screen in Sweden and Festival Miden in Greece.

Nada Dada Quits Art, Nada Dada, United Arab Emirates 2011, 2:12 min

In 2008, Nada Dada wrote a speech on quitting art after witnessing the art scene in Dubai, performed it only to her teachers at College of Fine Arts in University of Sharjah. Dada explores the state of an unknown artist practicing “unnecessary art” and being rejected for failing to appear in Dubai’s art scene and nightlife. The speech ironically was a beginning of an era where Dada started producing intimate and critical work on tradition, gender, patriarchy, humor and personal tragedy, recruiting back to her toilet where she films most of her videos and speeches.

The Holy Chicken of Life and Music, NOMINT, Greece 2010, 3:00 min

The short animation “Holy Chicken of Life and Music” tells the story of the Holy Chicken, a magnificent beast, worshiped and exploited, in a surrealistic (or in real?) world.
