The Research Centre of Ordinary People, founded by the Humontologic Society of Finland, ceremoniously opens 24 June, 2009, at 6 pm. The centre was founded to support the seminal human ontology research, launched by Maria Engel, head of the research group.

The research centre will be open to the public to promote the field of humontology and its achievements. Visitors can participate in Engel’s latest experiment or watch tests being carried out.

Engel has studied the development of Moral Intelligence for a long time. In fact, Moral Intelligence has become one of the most central terms of humontology. It refers to behaviour that is tolerant as well as socially and morally acceptable.

In her current research project, the Playground Theory, Engel studies the effects of culture on the development of Moral Intelligence. The humorous name of the project originates from Engel’s discussion on whether our behaviour goes back to childhood times at the playground. Among other places, Maria Engel has studied cultural effects in Bali, Indonesia.

Anyone interested in taking part in the research project can sign up beforehand by contacting research assistant Niina Tanskanen, tel. +358 41 4372414.

The research centre project has been kindly supported by Miskin Foundation, AVEK (The Promotion Centre for Audiovisual Culture), Visek (The Promotion Centre for Visual Arts), TOP-Säätiö foundation, the Arts Council of Finland, the Arts Council of Varsinais-Suomi, and the Varsinais-Suomi Regional Fund of the Finnish Cultural Foundation.
