Ylva Holländer
’s exhibition features ceramic works, some of which are hung on the walls while others stand on their own pedestals. She combines her ceramic works with porcelain objects found at flea markets. These combinations generate light-hearted associations. The multi-layered works explore both the visible and the invisible – things that are hidden beneath the grass or concealed inside of a person.

The works contain strange, absurd and surprising elements. They are tinged with humor and playfulness, yet one can always find more serious existential questions in the background. In this reality of humans and fungi, humans are not the crown of creation. Fungi play an equally important role in this world. The works offer a foundation for philosophical reflections.

Holländer has a background in painting, and color is important to her. Three-dimensionality has always been a part of her creative process. Her works are like three-dimensional paintings.
She is fascinated by Western art history and scientific illustrations from the 1600s and 1700s. Still-life paintings from that era told stories through plants, living creatures and objects. They often depicted the cycle of life and death or decay and renewal. These themes are present in Holländer’s latest works.
