Finnish Platform ArtParis + Guests 2010 Grand Palais, Paris 18-22 March 2010
– Finland Invited Guest at New Paris Art Fair ArtParis + Guests 2010

STRESSED BEAUTY
La beauté sous pression

”Finland is a country of extremes: vast expanses of silent snowfields, a
throbbing high tech rhythm; endless nights flowing into days without end.
These contrasts have molded almost everything into art. The new generation
of artists challenges the classic concept of beauty to bring forth a new
individual esthetic expression. New materials, digital renderings, the
melding of form and function create a meeting point for art and design.”
– Leevi Haapala, curator

Finnish art galleries and top designers will make a first-ever joint
appearance at the art fair which will open on 18 March in the Grand Palais.
In addition to art galleries, the expo will also include platforms of six
geographic and cultural regions. The purpose of the new ArtParis + Guests
2010 fair concept is to explore interconnections between cultures and
creative disciplines by inviting guests to appear with art galleries. The
guests range from notables of the art world to entire countries.

ArtParis + Guests 2010 will feature six geographic regions: Finland, Italy,
Russia, Indonesia, Ukraine and Africa.

The theme of the 300m2 Finnish exhibition is “Stressed Beauty”. It will
explore the eternal yet ever-changing concept of beauty through the work of
18 contemporary artists and 11 designers. The exhibits will include
sculptures, paintings, videos, photographs and furniture as well as designer
lamps, ceramics and glass.

The curator of the Finnish pavilion is Leevi Haapala from the Museum of
Contemporary Art Kiasma, the design objects are selected by industrial
designer Antti Siltavuori and the exhibition design is by interior architect
Ben af Schultén. Pastil, the legendary chair by Eero Aarnio, will be
presented in the Finnish exhibition in never-before-seen colours developed
specifically for this event by the veteran designer.
