The exhibition at Galleria Huuto features expressive paintings developed over a period of about five years. The oil and tempera paintings have been created layer by layer, as if by guiding themselves. The painted surface forms a network of visual impulses mixed with cultural fragments. In his multidimensional works, Nampajärvi leaves room for the viewer to interpret, get lost, and feel.

“I don’t usually plan in advance what will appear in a painting. If I do plan something, it will change many times along the way. My paintings consist of multiple layers, just like one’s personality, history, or the soil. I work fast and expressively. The surface of the painting changes with every splash of paint, and the canvas spins in circles, searching for the right position. While painting, I mostly think about the rhythm of colors and shapes – or ideally, nothing at all. In contrast, reflecting and finding the right emotional charge is a slow process. On the couch in my studio or on my walks, I try to grasp something ancient and cosmic. Humanity and its neural pathways.”
