ESTOMANIA 2 – kunsti kahest rannast.

Jätkä 1 25.10.-10.11.2013

ESTOMANIA 2 – kunsti kahest rannast.
Galleria Huuto Jätkäsaari
25.10.–10.11.2013

Open hours: Tue–Sun 12–5 pm

Estomania 2 – kunsti kahest rannast is the second festival and exhibition containing works of Estonian and Finnish contemporary artists. The first Estomania, which was held in Helsinki in August 2012, illustrated that there is more interest in Estonian art than what cultural exchanges between the countries offer. Estomania is arranged by the artists who aim to keep the event interesting and fresh. The idea of the exhibition is not to present a comprehensive sample of Estonian contemporary art, but rather to provide a glimpse of what one can find after sailing across the Baltic Sea and wandering the streets of Kalamaja, popping into a bar, meeting a person, then another person through the first one, ending up in their studio, homes, exhibition spaces, rehearsal rooms… In addition to the Estonian artists, the exhibition features Finnish artists who all have some kind of connection with Estonia. In the long run, our aim is to build an active grass roots collaboration network between the two
countries.

The 2013 Estomania begins with a festival during the opening weekend (Fri 25 Oct – Sun 27 Oct), which includes not only the opening ceremony but also performances, poetry, music and circus acts by both Estonian and Finnish artists. The exhibition will be open until 10 November. This year the exhibition features sound, videos, kinetic sculptures, installations, prints, paintings, drawings and photographs.

Estomania is an exhibition from outside the institutions, from Tallinn’s backyards, shores, attics, old industrial buildings, from behind a tree, bunkers and ramshackle houses. It is about the joy of doing things together, the relevance of art, romance, friendship, beauty, rebellion and glamour.
