Shadowy Spring

Huuto III 6.7.-30.7.2023

Shadowy Spring
6–30 July 2023

My artistic work is based on ceramics, both through the material and the work process. With the help of ceramics, I try to create and combine painting-like, sculptural and architectural dimensions in a space. In addition to clay, I use various other materials such as water and metal in my installations. My key motivations are experimentation, working with my hands and playful curiosity, through which I challenge traditional views of sculpture. The thinking behind my works is based on a posthumanist world view and animism. I am fascinated by questions related to relationships and interaction between people and other species. How can we learn to understand different kinds of awareness?

Shadowy Spring reflects working with clay as a metaphor. In addition to ceramic sculptures, the exhibition features silhouette-like reliefs that depict the networks of plants and other creatures.

Katri Paunu (b. 1993) lives and works in Pyhäranta in southwestern Finland. She earned a BA in Arts and Design from Gerrit Rietveld Academie in the Netherlands in 2018 and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Oslo National Academy of the Arts in 2021. Paunu’s works are included in private collections in both Finland and abroad. Shadowy Spring is her fourth solo exhibition.
