Mikko Kallio
Beings
23 May–16 June 2024
“A being is a fictional person or another living creature whose purpose is to be in this world.”
In Mikko Kallio’s (b. 1971) works on paper, watercolor, ink, drawn lines create stages for possible stories and figures. The works also include other materials, such as sand and pieces of paper and wood.
“The beings keep appearing in the works in new forms, wandering around and wondering at the world. In my work, a spontaneous gesture is combined with systematic construction and drawing lines and grids. I admire the physical feel of the materials, the combinations and details.”
In addition to paper works, the exhibition features paintings containing parts of objects.
Mikko Kallio’s works have been on display at exhibitions in Finland and abroad since 1998, most recently at the Kajaani Art Museum in 2024, Aine Art Museum in Tornio in 2023 and HilbertRaum in Berlin in 2023. The artist’s works are included in the collections of Kiasma, HAM Helsinki Art Museum, Aine Art Museum, Tampere Art Museum, the Finnish State, HUS and the cities of Tampere and Mänttä-Vilppula and in private collections.
