Live Love Laugh
24 July–16 August 2020

You can meet the artist at the gallery on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd at 12 noon – 5 pm.

My work usually takes place in two phases. First, I place myself in the situation of the painting I will be working on and outline the situation by photographing it. For years, my need to experience the situations depicted in the paintings physically with my body has been an important part of my work.

Only then will I start painting. I eliminate everything that is irrelevant and only try to include the most important things in the picture. I have always been interested in people as a subject and aim for a figurative end result. I am interested in creating an illusion of a shape or material on the canvas.

In spite of being figurative, my paintings are an attempt to make something invisible visible.

Tuulia Iso-Tryykäri (b. 1985) lives and works in Lappeenranta. She earned a bachelor’s degree in visual arts in 2009 and a master’s degree in 2013, both from the Saimaa University of Applied Sciences. Iso-Tryykäri’s works are included in the collections of the Finnish State, Lappeenranta Art Museum and the City of Kotka.

There will be no opening event due to the coronavirus epidemic.

I wish to thank the South Karelia Regional Fund of the Finnish Cultural Foundation and Arts Promotion Centre Finland.
