Huuto IV 5.3.-28.3.2021

Parallell
5–28 March 2021

My video work Parallell is on display at Galleria Huuto in March 2021. It is an exploration into the nature of self and the desire to escape one’s own reality. By manipulating the video and putting myself in another person’s position, I try to see behind my own face.

In the work, the body is like a shell, inside which I act. If I step into another shell, will the direction and reality of my life also change?

Everything happens in the air, inside a small plane. The pilot is alone inside their metal shell, with an open sky behind the windshield. What kind of reality are we headed for?

Okku Nuutilainen (b. 1981) is a Helsinki-based video artist, film editor and director. The artist’s works are centered around a human’s wishes and dreams, exploring them by means of visual manipulation. Nuutilainen has studied film editing at Aalto University’s Department of Film, Television and Scenography and earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Academy of Fine Arts at the University of the Arts Helsinki.

The exhibition has been supported by the Finnish Cultural Foundation.
