To make a film just to meet Vera is a short film of an encounter between two women, based on actual events. The narrator, media artist Pinja Valja, sees photos of model Vera Ruuska. Vera reminds her of her childhood years when she used to pretend that she was a princess. The main duty of the princess was to be beautiful, wear gorgeous clothes and be admired.

Pinja begins to make a documentary about Vera in order to explore her childhood dream that suddenly emerged in a real person. What would it be like to be Vera? Is Vera’s life like the life of a princess?

The film follows the documentary project, from childhood memories to fashion shoots and moments behind the scenes. After getting to know Vera, Pinja experiences feelings of envy. This forces her to reflect on her own identity and find ways to turn the envy into a resource.

Through the story of the two women, the film explores the representation of beauty and the performativity of identity.

The duration of the film is approx. 15 minutes and it is played every 20 minutes, starting on the hour.

To make a film just to meet Vera has been supported by Kone Foundation, AVEK and Arts Promotion Centre Finland.
