Past Plans

Our house, which also includes my studio, was sold to us with furniture and other items still in it. The previous resident did not take much with them. All the furniture, dishes, clothes, books, collections, mementos, letters, photographs and even cars from the past decades were left there. As we moved in, we carried out the previous life of the house and brought in our own lives.
When I removed an old non-functional clock from the wall, it suddenly started to work again. I left it on the wall. I burned most of the books in the fireplace, but I also came across a little short story booklet “Menneisyys suunnitelmat” (“Past plans”) that had been placed inside a history book.

The remaining items eventually blended in with our own items. The same happens to memories. They get mixed up with each other and, in the end, our minds are filled with obscure, disconnected and often irrelevant haunting situations. For this exhibition, I have worked on memories, past plans and flashes.
